We begin with a major development this hour in Israel's war with Hamas militants. A word just coming in, Israel has agreed to daily four-hour pauses in its military operations in some areas of northern Gaza. Here is how it is expected to work. Each day, Israeli officials will issue an announcement that will be made three hours in advance of a pause. Then, the pause will last for four hours. A U.S. spokesman says the process will begin today. The United States has been urging Israel to provide humanitarian pauses to allow more humanitarian aid to enter Gaza and to allow Palestinians to evacuate to safer areas. White House correspondent Serena Marshall has been following these late-breaking details and joins us live. Serena, what more can you share? Chris, that's right, the National Security Council making this announcement just within the last half hour, saying they've been told by Israel that those pauses will go into effect in the way that you just outlined them with that four-hour implementation, an announcement made three hours prior to that. It does come as out of the U.S. and Israel discussions leading into this, including the last call between President Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The president earlier today at Joint Base Andrews, when he was departing, he commented on those pauses and said that he'd like to see them be even longer. Did you ask for a pause for three days to get to the hospital? Yes, I've asked for even a longer pause for some of them. Are you bringing up the issue of an endorsement? The shutdown, the shutdown, the shutdown. And this also comes as international pressure continues to build for a ceasefire. On that point, the president said no, none, none, no possibility. He says on the hostages, they do remain optimistic. And it follows Secretary of State Antony Blinken's diplomatic offensive to the region. We're at the G7 yesterday. He was asked about a pause and also the ceasefire. He says that there has to be some situations in place, some elements in place for a ceasefire, especially as you hear a lot of folks calling for them, saying that we can't go back to the status quo with Hamas threatening to carry out the events of October 7th again. He also laid out America's endgame vision, saying that Palestine needs to be ruled by the Palestinian people. And also, this also all happens as the administration, Chris, has announced that there are going to be two corridors for people to leave North Gaza. But there is concern that Hamas will try to prevent those individuals from leaving. And the administration is still pushing for additional aid into the region, saying they want to see no less than 150 trucks per day. Chris.
