For tonight's interview, I talk with the Iraqi president about, among other things, how to bring peace to the region. You met with President Trump here at the U.N. Yeah. We didn't have much of discussions. It was just greeting. He had a meeting with leaders from the Middle East. He called it his most important meeting here at the United Nations. The White House told CBS News that foreign partners said that he's the only one who can end the fighting in Gaza. Is that true? I agree. The tragedy of Gaza and tragedy of Palestinian cause has been going on for a number of years. And I think United States, at present, is the most powerful superpower in the world. And I'm sure they can really influence Israeli government to end this war. Mr. President, in your mind, what will it take to end the war in Gaza? I think by implementing the United Nations resolutions and, at the same time, implementing what has been recently decided by European countries, by a large number of United Nations members of the real solutions is creating two states for Israeli and for Palestinian. The war has to be stopped before we can start making a roadmap for ultimate solutions. Is Iraq willing to accept refugees from Gaza? I don't think anybody will accept refugees from Gaza. Why not? No. Why do you force them to leave their land to become refugees? Can you force any people to leave their home country? Yes, if an individual or a family want to live somewhere else, yes, we will be glad to help them, but not to impose refugee status on the Palestinian people. If this war drags on longer, just keeps going on, what do you envision? It will be catastrophic, because this war is affecting everywhere. United States forces are being drawn down. ISIS was a main reason for our presence there. How much of a threat is ISIS to them? Now in Iraq, none. None? Zero? But we have to— Have they been eliminated? They have been eliminated in many places. But we still have to be on the guard to watch for ISIS movement, because ISIS don't live only in Iraq. They are almost everywhere. One of our tasks, coming to the United Nations, to ask those countries whom ISIS come from to take them back to their own country. There are also attacks on U.S. troops in the area. You have Iranian-backed militias. You have other bad actors still attacking U.S. forces there. They are not still attacking U.S. forces. But yes, I agree with you. But that has been looked after and eliminated. And I'm glad to say there hasn't been heavy casualties in those cases. Do you want the United States to fully withdraw, or do you want there to be some troops left behind? It's not really up to me as a president or as one individual. Iraq is a democratic system. We have a parliament, we have a government, we have presidential office, and we have judiciary system. Well, do the Iraqi people? Does the government— The Iraqi people has left it for the Iraqi government to come to arrangement with the United States, how many they stay, how many they can leave, and when they completely leave Iraq.
