According to six former officials and allies of Trump, his strategy would involve leveraging multiple government agencies to enforce record numbers of deportations. The plan would also reportedly focus on pushing "sanctuary" jurisdictions to collaborate with federal authorities.

During Trump's first term, policies included a travel ban targeting Muslim-majority countries, family separations at the southern border, and advances in constructing a border wall. If given a second term, Trump's allies claim they would employ the U.S. military to assist in mass deportations, marking what they deem would be the largest in the nation's history. 

In contrast, Vice President Kamala Harris has taken steps to address the root causes of immigration issues. Harris has visited nations like Guatemala to discourage dangerous migration treks to the U.S. While her stance has drawn criticism from within her party, she has remained focused on preventing perilous journeys. On the other hand, Republicans have attacked Harris, attributing the rising number of illegal border crossings to her role.

The U.S. has witnessed a surge in illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border in the recent years, although figures have declined sharply since President Joe Biden's executive order, which limits asylum claims when crossings surpass a specified threshold.

During his first term as president, Trump enacted travel bans on Muslim-majority countries, implemented a policy of separating children from their families at the southern border, and made some advances reinforcing a wall along the US-Mexico border. But if he's elected to a second term, Trump and his allies are promising to go much further, vowing to facilitate mass deportations, using the US military to round up millions of immigrants and send them back to their countries of origin. And they do come from prisons and mental institutions, and they are terrorists. And we're going to be paying a price, and it will be the largest deportation in the history of our country. For her part, Kamala Harris has tried to focus on what she calls root causes of the immigration crisis. As vice president, she traveled to countries such as Guatemala, where she came under some criticism from progressives and her party when she warned would-be migrants that they would be turned back at the border. I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making that dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border. Do not come. Although it was an issue in her portfolio, Republicans have falsely claimed that Harris served as President Biden's border czar. But they have correctly pointed to a record number of illegal crossings of the US-Mexico border in the last three years. However, those numbers have plunged dramatically since June, when President Biden issued an executive order to effectively shut the border to migrants seeking asylum when crossings exceed 2,500 per day.
