Players say they've seen barriers break down in the sport and professionalism rise. It's encouraging, they say, to see the sport on the up and up. We also see this as an opportunity for those of us who have been coming up through the lower categories of the national team, that this is growing and that this is going upwards. Financially, FIFA says the tournament has brought in more than half a billion dollars in revenue. But there are spillover effects in other ways, too. A local team in Cologne, Germany, has seen a surge of new players sign up in recent months. Here's coach Denise Vecchio. Now over the summer, 20 new players have registered in our youth program alone who want to play soccer. I think the numbers speak for themselves. We have almost 10 new players for our women's team alone. It's the same with the first team. Women's soccer is getting more and more players who want to play soccer. While the sport has faced controversy, including over coaching, abuse, pay and equity, for now, both sides are focusing on the sport's biggest match, England looking for a rare repeat of last year's Euro success and Spain looking to make history of their own. England forward Alessia Russo says players have noticed the shift. I think we noticed a big difference in the Euros. I think the way the nation got behind us was incredible. The support for women's football right now is crazy and, as it should be, it should be exactly that and it's so nice to see.
