A historic home in Annandale, known as Highroyd, has been listed for sale for the first time in 36 years. Built nearly 140 years ago in a Victorian Gothic style by architect Sir John Young, who also designed St. Mary's Cathedral, the property is one of eight grand homes originally constructed in the area. 

Highroyd features stained glass, a turret, and a 'widow's walk,' and sits on an 800 square meter block with about 500 square meters of internal space, including a pool house. The six-bedroom residence is being offered at an asking price of $9.75 million.

As Halloween approaches, it's a spellbinding chance to buy your own witch's house, nicknamed so on looks alone. We haven't come across a ghost after 40 years. This is Highroyd, one of the first majestic homes built in Sydney almost 140 years ago. Oh I think there's something special about every room here they're all you know the stained glass and four stories and the turret. The houses are built in a Victorian Gothic style and one of the things some houses had in Britain were what's called widow's walks where women would wait for their husbands to come back from overseas and I'd look out from the widow's walk at the ships returning waiting for their husband and I guess sometimes they didn't. It was one of eight grand homes in a row built by architect Sir John Young who also built St. Mary's Cathedral. He even designed the street. To turn around a horse and carriage it was the only street wide enough. Once in a lifetime we say that a lot in real estate but this really is first time offered in 36 years nothing of this scale with the history the views and the location it's a magical property. Although they were built long before the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the city John Young was trying to establish Sydney's premier suburb. In the end one of his daughters ended up calling Highroyd home. It's an over 800 square meter block of land internally a combination is 500 square meters including the pool house there's six bedrooms but it's quite versatile in terms of configurations.
