A gunman opened fire at a dance venue near a Lunar New Year festival in Monterey Park, Calif., killing at least 10 people and wounding 10 others, some critically. Shortly afterwards, a a 'male Asian suspect' with a firearm walked into another dance hall in the neighbouring suburb of Alhambra but bystanders wrestled the gun from him.

Good morning. We begin with breaking news for Monterey Park, California near Los Angeles. A gunman opened fire last night near a Lunar New Year celebration killing at least 10 people. When officers arrived on scene, they observed numerous individuals patrons of the location pouring, out of the location screaming, the officers made entry at location and locate additional victims. The Monterey Park police fire department responded to the scene and treated the injured and pronounced 10 of the victims, deceased at the scene. Police and ambulances were called to the scene just after 10 p.m. local time, 10 two people injured in the shooting as you heard. Some of them critically taken to hospitals in the area. Police say the suspect fled the scene and they don't know what, motivated the attack at this point. Let's get the very latest on this breaking story. We are joined by Steve futterman. Now she's good to see you on this. So you are joining us from just close to that shooting sites in Monterey Park. So we just heard from police, what were some of the key messages? Well, you heard the numbers at least 10 people were killed, at least ten, others were wounded. Other their conditions range from stable to quite critical. So unfortunately that death toll could rise and the numbers are not firm completely. We know what at least $10 or did at least 10 others wounded so those numbers could change what motivated this person. What was the reason for all this test? That's still no answer question right now, we do know that there was the big Lunar. New Year celebration taking place in Monterey Park, which happens every year. This is a very large, Asian American Community. Many people come here from China, from Hong, Kong a very large. Large, Asian American presence in this area. So, a lunar new year is always a celebration. So many businesses for having their parties. It was a special night. This was in a, a dancehall there. Basically saying, when the gunman walked in open fire again, no indication that. There was any warning, no indication that the gunman. Anyting, he fled and right now, the gunman is on the loose, he's outstanding. Now, there's another incident. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but there is another incident to authorities are looking at another nearby area called Alhambra California. Not far from the earth, they're trying to see if there's a connection between the two incidents. At this point. They will not say yes or no, but they're looking into it so they could possibly possibly be a second incident or we don't know that right now but just a bit of shock here. Right now, as people most people are asleep, they don't know what happened. They will wake up and hear this very tragic news, in Monterey Park. And as you say, Steve is happening during Lunar New Year celebration. So devastated, we heard from local police that more celebrations planned for today, in Monterey Park will now be cancelled. What are you hearing? And seeing from her in terms of reaction from people in the area? Well, as I mentioned to you before, many people have no idea this took place because they were asleep already. Again, this took place around 10 1030 at night by the time the information filtered out. Many people have gone to sleep. I did have one gentleman frantically come up to me and asked me, how many people were killed, how many people were wounded? He was very worried that maybe there are some people. He knows that were in this dancehall who were involved in the shooting. So you're going to have obviously a great deal of shock and then just shocked reaction when people wake up in here about this, as you mentioned, this was supposed to be a two-day celebration Saturday Sunday. The the Lunar New Year weekend, always a big celebration here in Monterey Park and now everything is been called off. I live in abundance of caution they just are worried that something else might trigger auditions, that might trigger something else and they just don't want to have anything else Beyond what's happened already. So all the celebrations are off, we do expect more updates throughout the day and the big question. Two big questions Who is the gunman? Is he going to be apprehended? Will they be able to get the suspect? And what is the motive?
