Google has announced a $40 billion investment to expand its data center and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Texas. The announcement, made by the company's CEO at the Midlothian campus, includes plans for new data centers in Haskell, Armstrong, and Ellis counties, as well as a new AI infrastructure facility in Red Oak.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated that this investment will make Texas home to the most AI data centers in the United States. While the expansion is expected to create jobs and boost the local economy, concerns have been raised about the strain on the state's power grid. Google has committed to supporting the grid and investing in workforce training for skilled trades.

Silicon Valley tech giant Google is making its footprint bigger in Texas. The company is committing $40 billion in investments for data centers and artificial intelligence here in Texas. Fox 4's Steven Dial joins us from Midlothian with more. Steven? Payton, that $40 billion investment announced by the Google CEO today, Governor Abbott said that that would make Texas the home to the most AI data centers in the country. Now the announcement came earlier today at the Midlothian campus by the Google CEO. The video that you're about to see is Sky 4 video over the current Midlothian campus. Today's announcement was basically announcing that a plant will be built, a data center will be in Haskell and Armstrong counties, three in total. And while the new jobs are a welcome sight to the Texas economy, some have been concerned about the strain that data centers put on the power grid, especially Texas' power grid. Governor Abbott took note of that and tried to ease some people's concerns. They have already provided a net new addition of five gigawatts of power to our grid. And they are committed to ensuring that as they continue to build out, they will be net positive to the power grid, making sure we have the reliability and the supply that Texas needs to keep the lights on for all of our fellow Texans. So they're not the only ones that have shown up to the party, but they're at the party. And so they're part of the reason, you know, that that, you know, that demand is is looking to grow. Now, the high level numbers that they're showing, I am concerned about. I mean, you're talking about a doubling of the of the electricity grid in five years. And I just don't think we can physically build that much infrastructure that fast. Now, Google is also making investments. The Google CEO says that he is committed to training and paying for the training of apprentice skilled workers like electricians. Today's announcement was also to announce the opening of a AI infrastructure facility in Red Oak. So two facilities in Ellis County.
