General Motors Co. reached a tentative agreement with the United Auto Workers to end a six-week strike with similar terms to the deal signed earlier by Ford Motor Co., according to people familiar with the matter. Members still need to ratify the agreement.

Just breaking this hour, Bloomberg reporting that GM has reached a tentative agreement with the UAW to end the strike. Here with us to have the crack reporting on the autosphere is our very own Matt Miller. Matt, what's the latest? Yeah, so GM is the last of the big three to make a deal with the union. Of course, all of this still needs to be ratified by union members. But GM was a holdout after Ford agreed with the union to resume work on Wednesday of last week. Stellantis over the weekend on Saturday and that had put a lot more pressure on General Motors. GM had a lot more temporary workers than Ford at any given time. Ten percent of the people working for General Motors in this country are temporary workers. And Ford and Stellantis had offered what amounts to 150 percent raises to those workers. That's what one of the things that was a sticking point for General Motors. Also, it has the most employees that are due for retirement benefits 300000. So that was another one of the sticking points. But all three have agreed to give 25 percent raises to hourly workers including cost or not including. There's an additional cost of living allowance that's going to go in there and that would amount to 33 percent increases in pay over the four years of this contract. So as I said it still needs to be ratified. But it looks like this strike is now over. Remember it started on September 17th. So we're in the seventh week of this strike and it's caused a lot of financial damage for last week saying one point three billion dollars in terms of damage to the bottom line. And maybe it's now over and we can reassess just how much damage overall it has done and just how much the workers have gained.
