Philippines Immigration Commissioner has stated that Haas’ alleged involvement in drug trafficking could result in severe penalties, including the death penalty. Historically, drug cases in Indonesian courts have yielded high conviction rates, heightening the gravity of Haas' legal predicament. His arrest coincided with Payne Haas preparing for the NRL's Magic Round at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium. Despite these developments, the Brisbane Broncos have expressed their full support for Payne Haas during this challenging period.

In another legal matter, Payne Haas’ mother, Joan Tafua, is facing charges related to a fatal crash in the Gold Coast hinterland in December 2022, which resulted in the deaths of three people. Currently, Gregor Haas remains in immigration detention in Manila, with possibilities for extradition to Indonesia. If he contests the extradition, the process could extend over several months or years.

As for Gregor Haas, tonight he's in immigration detention in Manila, where he's expected to be extradited to Indonesia. We will do what we can. In the first instance, that means consular support. Mr Haas could possibly be extradited to Indonesia within a matter of weeks, but if he contests the extradition, he could drag out over a number of months, if not years.
