The influx of asylum seekers arriving from Russia to Finland isn't obvious at border crossings. Dozens of undocumented migrants from African and Middle Eastern countries have arrived in recent weeks. Finland believes this is linked to the fact it has joined NATO. As a member of the EU and NATO, Finland is firmly involved in condemning Russia's attack on Ukraine. We have thus been prepared for Russia's various actions and malice, and this situation therefore does not come as a surprise to us either. The head of the European Commission shares Finland's analysis and hails its decision to close four border crossings. She tweeted that Russia's instrumentalization of migrants is shameful. She added, I thank the Finnish border guards for protecting our European borders. Russia denies any deliberate move to destabilize Finland or the EU. If the Finnish side has any concerns, if there is a desire to work together on a certain matter in order to prevent this situation from developing in a negative way, they can well express their concerns to the Russian side, instead of inventing some absurd theories of aliens from other planets landing in Finland soon. This other border is also being closely watched. It separates Poland from Belarus, and two years ago tens of thousands of people tried to cross it. The EU said that was a deliberate move from Belarus. Poland has since built a steel wall on the border, but it still accuses Russia and Belarus of orchestrating migrant arrivals in far smaller numbers.
