A fatal incident occurred outside Dubbo, Central West NSW, involving a deadly crash between a bus and a car after a police chase. A man lost his life, and numerous passengers aboard the bus sustained injuries in the tragic event.

The crash came about when a 32-year-old man, suspected of being involved in a domestic disturbance, was being pursued by police on the Mitchell Highway. The officers had been alerted to the situation earlier and attempted to stop the vehicle, which led to a pursuit.

Despite efforts to safely manage the situation, the pursuit ended with the suspect's vehicle colliding head-on with a public bus carrying 26 passengers. This collision has resulted in at least seven passengers and the bus driver sustaining injuries.

Witnesses described the chaos as the car veered across the road before the impact. The quick actions of the 54-year-old bus driver, who took evasive maneuvers, are credited with preventing further harm to the passengers.

A critical incident investigation has been launched to examine the police response from the initial report of the domestic incident to the fatal collision. This examination aims to scrutinize the actions taken during the pursuit and the broader incident response.

The chaotic aftermath of a tragic head-on collision. Yeah, it was just devastating. There was seven passengers plus the driver that were injured. Unfortunately, the man driving the vehicle has lost his life as a result of the crash. Just before nine this morning, police were alerted to what they claim was a volatile domestic situation just outside Dubbo, 400km north-west of Sydney. On route, responding officers spotted a 32-year-old suspect driving on the Mitchell Highway. They identified the driver of that as being involved in the domestic, so they turned on that car and attempted to pull it over. The car refused to stop. They then engaged in a pursuit. Police say the pursuit was terminated only minutes later. Police were then establishing other ways that they might be able to stop that vehicle. By 9.15, the Silver Mazda crashed head-on with a public bus, which had 26 passengers on board. Went from that side of the road to this side, to that side, this side, and then... Just come head-on with another car. At least half the other passengers, from what I saw, sort of hit under the street in front of them. Sean was sitting in the middle of the bus behind the driver when the car crossed to the other side of the road. I do recall in that one-second window seeing lights, police lights, and cars behind the Silver car. A 54-year-old woman that was driving the bus took evasive action and probably saved the lives of a lot of people. A critical incident investigation will look at the entire response of officers from the moment police first received reports of a domestic violence incident right through until the moment of impact. The police involved in this were responding to what is a volatile incident, and that's led to a tragic outcome. And a terrifying ordeal for those passengers with a brave bus driver.
