Five young men are in hospital after their boat capsized off the popular Christies Beach in South Australia. A local surf lifesaving group nearby jumped in to save the group.

A small 12-foot dinghy carrying five men capsized about one kilometre off the coast of Horseshoe Reef near Christie's Beach after launching from O'Sullivan's Beach boat ramp. Local surf life-saving crews responded quickly, rescuing all five men, with one found unconscious and requiring CPR while the others suffered from hypothermia. 

All five individuals were transported to hospital and remain under observation. Authorities are reminding boaters to always wear life jackets and check water and weather conditions before setting out. Police are seeking information from anyone who witnessed the incident.

What should have been a fun day out on the water quickly turns dangerous. Just behind me over there they were trying to revive somebody by the ambulance. A small 12-foot dinghy capsizing just one kilometre off the coast of Horseshoe Reef at Christie's Beach after launching the vessel at O'Sullivan's Beach boat ramp around 11am. It's a lot different down here than what it is around O'Sullivan's Beach. It's a lot, the current is a lot stronger. Local surf life-saving crew including Richard and Hughie were just packing up as the incident was unfolding, wasting no time jumping into action. We could sort of see three were clinging onto the boat. Somebody said there was four people in the water and we found the fifth person floating face down in the water. Emergency services rushed to the esplanade to meet them. Paramedics quickly starting CPR on one man pulled unconscious from the sea. The other three that were hanging onto the boat were all hypothermic. While the men are trained in rescues, they say nothing could have prepared them for today. First time in my career that I've seen that with we hear of it. Second time I've been out in that situation. All five men in the boat were taken to hospital and remain under observation. Authorities are urging all boaties to always wear life jackets and check water and weather conditions before setting off. A message Richard and Hughie both back.
