Now to the frosty weather hitting the northern U.S. from the upper Midwest to the Northeast. Lana Zak, the only National Network correspondent based in Iowa, has the details. A fresh blanket of snow and a blast of cold weather gripped the Midwest and parts of the South. Colder than normal temperatures were felt from Minnesota to Maine. Virginia continues to get snow three days after this state trooper ran to rescue a driver whose car crashed north of Richmond during bad weather. The officer had to pull the man out of the burning vehicle to safety. In western New York, snow set the scene for the matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Two and a half inches of snow fell on Highmark Stadium. Buffalo came out a winner. But many drivers lost their battle with winter weather out west in Colorado. Icy roads and deep snow caused cars to spin out and force truck drivers to pull over. It was miserable. A lot of trucks getting their chains cut off. It's, stopped on the interstate is not a good thing. Add to the cold a challenging economic climate. Colder weather means an increase in utility costs. And many people already struggling with rent and food prices are seeking help. Sarah Nelson is the CEO of Community Crisis Services in Iowa City. We've been preparing for a tsunami of need and we expect it to get worse before it gets better. And overnight, the temperature here reached just one degree Fahrenheit. And with weather that cold, health experts warn that frostbite can set in in as little as 10 minutes. Okay, hang in there. Lana Zak, thank you. Let's get to the frigid forecast now from our friend Lonnie Quinn. Hello, Lonnie. Okay, John, we're gonna start you off by talking the cold weather. Then we'll transition to some rain and some snow. But here's the deal, records could be broken. Tomorrow morning, for example, Binghamton. Binghamton goes down to zero. The record is one. Manchester, New Hampshire, you're going down to five. The record is seven for you. But thankfully, the winds are not as strong, so the wind chill isn't as severe. For example, Bangor, Maine, it's one below zero. That's cold, but thankfully it only feels like one below zero. There's not a big drop there. Some folks could have a five or 10 degree wind chill, but it's not as bad. Snow right now is in Virginia. In fact, we got winter weather advisories in that area. Anyone in the state could really pick up one to four inches from this point moving forward. But the other big story has to do with the atmospheric river, and I'm talking rain. Portland, Oregon, Seattle, Washington could be seeing a foot of rain before this week is done. And some of that moisture will interact with a clipper system that's dropping in from Canada. And by the time that gets to a place like Minneapolis, Minneapolis, over the last 14 days, has had 10 days with snow. They will pick up snow tomorrow as well. It's 11 out of 15. And by the time they finish tomorrow, they may very well end up with one half of last year's entire snow total.
