We see children caring for other children because the parents have disappeared, because the parents have been detained. This is not safety. So yes, I think everybody here around me is very stressed, very traumatized by what is happening and know that whatever calm situation they are in, it is extremely fragile. This latest wave of mass displacement erupted after the RSF left hundreds dead in al-Fasha, the Sudanese army's last major stronghold. Humanitarian workers say camps like Tawila are now doing critical life-saving work as civilians flee the violence. That's why we call for more, more education during emergency. This is absolutely life-saving when so many children at the moment are going through terrible trauma of having been starved for 18 months, having lost their home, having lost members of their family, having done a terrible and deadly journey here until Tawila. Many of the children arrived in Tawila with relatives, neighbours or even strangers who refused to leave them behind in the desert or in war-torn al-Fasha. When they first arrived here, their condition was aggressive. They were withdrawn, violent and displayed many negative behaviours. Thank God, after we spent time with them and held several sessions, their condition improved. The children who were withdrawn or not interacting with other children, as well as the child who was aggressive and used to hit others, have all become more engaged. The RSF has accepted a US-brokered truce, but Sudan's military rejected it, demanding the rebels withdraw from civilian areas and disarm first.
