A powerful storm in California has fueled the rapid spread of the Pack Fire, which has burned more than 3,000 acres and remains completely uncontained. Authorities have issued mandatory evacuation orders as heavy rain and high winds complicate firefighting efforts and raise the risk of flooding and mudslides, particularly in Southern California.

Residents in affected areas, such as the Palisades, are taking precautions by installing barriers to protect homes from potential debris flows. The combination of recent wildfires and incoming storms has heightened concerns about mudslides, as hillsides lack vegetation to hold soil in place, increasing the danger of rapid flooding and property damage.

Turning our attention to California now, where a powerful storm has brought heavy rain and high winds, which are fueling a fast-growing wildfire. The Pack Fire has now burned more than 3,000 acres, and at this hour, it stands at 0% contained. That has prompted a mandatory evacuation. And the rain could help control the fire, but in Southern California, you've got flooding and mudslides that are also a major concern. CBS News national correspondent Carter Evans is following developments for us from a key location in Los Angeles to kind of get a sense of how things are moving. Carter, good morning to you. How do things look now, and how are people preparing for what's next? Well, Errol, you know, after we've had a big fire, it's always really scary when rain is in the forecast because, you know, there's just not much vegetation on the hillsides to hold them together. And if we get a lot of rain in a very short period of time, those hillsides just come down and they end up being a mud and debris flow. And we had that last year, right after the fire here in the Palisades. This is Palisades Drive. And I was here when it happened, and it was amazing to watch. I got to tell you, it was just a rush of mud and rocks rolling down here. It hit a parking attendance car, pushed it off the road into the fence, and then continued on down to Sunset Boulevard, right into the ocean, and it happened very fast. So that's what people are concerned about happening today. You can see they've anticipated it here today. They've installed those concrete barriers there to kind of keep water out of homes if it does come down. But if we do get the rains like we are expecting, and it's just starting now, we could definitely get some floods later today. And that's a big concern for people.
