Thousands faced traffic and mud after a rainy Burning Man festival trapped many of the festival goers in the desert. However, some still found it an amazing experience.

"Burning Man" exodus begins as road reopens 

Galloping this morning, the road out of Burning Man now back open. Organizers at the annual festival reopened that mud-slicked road yesterday. 64,000 people had been stranded in the desert there in Nevada after a rainstorm flooded out the week-long counterculture event. Yeah, absolutely. Well, people are burning rubber to get out of Burning Man. The road behind me packed with cars. They're kind of coming in waves right now as burners try to get their way out of the Nevada desert and into civilization. The airport at Black Rock City, it's also open. Believe it or not, they build an airport every single year. This after monsoon rains came down on Friday and through the weekend and just created a mess at Burning Man. Really muddy, just pretty disgusting conditions there and tens of thousands of people were trapped there in Black Rock City. This flash flooding, it closed roads and the temporary city that pops up during the Burning Man festival had all sorts of sanitation problems. They couldn't clean the toilets. It was pretty nasty. Meanwhile, the Pershing County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they are investigating how a 32-year-old man died Friday during the rain event. The Sheriff's Office says no immediate cause of death was determined after interviewing witnesses and medical responders, but an autopsy toxicology report is still being processed. While some continued their Burning Man experience, celebrity DJ Diplo and comedian Chris Rock decided to walk out. Other attendees did the same, not knowing how long they might be stuck on the lake bed known as the playa. I think everybody at first was like just welcoming the idea of staying in their in their trailer in their camp and just hanging out and having, I suppose, you know, a continuation of their Burning Man time and then after enough time went by it started to get a little bit like people started to question like okay well how long are we actually gonna be sheltering in place here and that's when you know we ultimately made the pretty quick decision to exit and walk out of the playa. The party went on though last night. The giant man effigy, the Burning Man burned down at 9 p.m. but now people are going on home and some folks, some of the folks that you can see driving right behind me, have waited seven hours to get out of the gates. A massive traffic jam piling on up in Black Rock City and a lot of these folks are probably happy to be on the road.

At least 21 people died on Tuesday and 18 were injured after a bus carrying tourists to a campground crashed off an overpass near Venice in northern Italy and caught fire, city officials said.
