A burglary suspect was shot and killed by Denver police at an apartment complex near South Parker Road and I-225, close to Cherry Creek Reservoir. The incident began when a resident discovered the suspect attempting to break in, alerted police, and guided them to the scene via a ring camera.

When the suspect approached officers, two police officers fired, resulting in fatal injuries. The suspect was given aid at the scene and transported to a hospital, where he later died. Authorities have stated that the area is generally considered safe and described the incident as isolated. Police protocols have been activated, and the investigation continues.

We start with breaking news. One person is dead after a shooting involving Denver police. So this happened on South Parker Road off I-225 not far from Cherry Creek Reservoir, Denver 7th alley. Jenner John has been at that scene for a little more than an hour and alley you actually just spoke to the unit owner who saw all this happen. Yeah, he was pretty shaken up guys. He started to cry when we were just over to the side talking a little bit because he's the one that found the suspect breaking into kind of close to his unit. He says he saw it on the ring camera and he asked that suspect to leave and then was on camera watching and guiding police when they arrived on scene when that suspect came towards police and when those two officers fired those deadly shots. We know the suspect was given aid here on scene. He was then taken to a hospital where he later died and so you can just tell all of that being involved in this person's morning when we stood there he was again very shaken up and I'll say in this neighborhood. I just saw a young girl wake up. Here they're sleeping when this is going on and this little girl is likely headed to school this morning and this is the scene that they're waking up to as parents and kids. So it's pretty scary and I know just weeks ago there was another robbery and an officer involved shooting close to the scene here close to the Maverick so I asked Chief Ron Thomas this morning if this is a safe area to be in. I think crime data shows that this is a safe area. I mean, obviously quite coincidental that there was a shooting as a result of a robbery that occurred at the Maverick just up the street. This is a completely isolated separate incident, a burglary. I think that often there are property crimes that occur in large apartment complexes like this and so probably not uncommon, but I think this is a very safe area, completely isolated incident. So if you're waking up this morning, no roads are blocked off, but if you're here at this apartment complex, you can see it's still an active scene. The police tape here and then they're focusing kind of their efforts on practicing kind of their efforts back by where that unit is. Again, the man that lives in that unit and called police. We saw him getting taken away by police, likely to do some questioning. Dan and Anusha when it comes to those two officers that fired those shots, Chief Thomas says that they're downtown giving their statements, and of course they'll activate those protocols that come when officers fire off shots.
