This Wednesday, Britain's King Charles and his wife Camilla will arrive in France on a state visit that's been months in the making. The trip was scheduled for last March but had to be postponed in the midst of unrest over Macron's pension reform. Now that he's just over a year into the job, take a look at how he's doing so far.

It was a very strong early test of his political neutrality, and there was no kind of protest or even private complaint from the palace. He behaved impeccably. Like his predecessors, King Charles has found other ways to make his opinions known. When he met refugees settled in the UK, some saw it as an indirect criticism of the conservative government's immigration policies. With no radical reforms, Charles' goal remains the stability and continuity of the crown. Not my king! Still, anti-monarchists are louder than ever before, even if they remain a minority. Over the past year, Charles III has gained 11 points in the polls, with approval from 55% of the population. Those close to him say he's happy and comfortable in the role he waited nearly a lifetime to fulfill.
