We're here in Manger Square. Describe the scene to us. Yes, well, you know, this is the scene that should have never left. For two years, Christmas was effectively cancelled here as the war in Gaza raged on. And while a U.S.-brokered ceasefire has not entirely ended the violence there or in the West Bank, Palestinian Christians say they see hope in celebrating. But I felt deep inside that this needs to be done. Christmas cannot be cancelled. Hope is the most important thing for us here to have. And if we don't do this, I think the city will die. Beneath the lights and ornaments, another grim reality. Bethlehem's almost entirely tourism-dependent economy is near collapse after years with few visitors or Christian pilgrims.
