Police are searching for two men who attempted arson on a beauty clinic in inner-west Sydney, with one setting himself on fire in the process.

Police are investigating an attempted arson at Shireen Skin, a beauty clinic in Burwood, New South Wales. Two individuals attempted to set fire to the business, but their efforts were unsuccessful, resulting in only minor damage. CCTV footage revealed the suspects were inexperienced, and one was injured during the incident. The clinic, located beneath residential apartments, has since been targeted by additional attempted break-ins, which police believe are related to the arson attempt. The business owner has increased security measures, including hiring a 24-hour guard, and authorities are urging the public to help identify those responsible.

There was this run-in with some slippery accelerant, then once the shop went up in flames, one of the arsonists got a taste of his own medicine. Yet after all that, the shop only sustained minor damage. It's quite clear from when you watch this CCTV, we are not dealing with professionals. We are dealing with amateurs. But for Shireen Skin's owner, this was no laughing matter. I wake up at night, like I have a security guard in here, I'm constantly looking over my shoulder. This is an extremely serious offence. We have seen in the past, these things go terribly, terribly wrong. Above the shop are apartments, which could have been in the firing line. On this occasion, we were very lucky. And that's why I'm calling on the community to assist us to take this idiot off the road. In another blow to the business, it was targeted twice more by would-be vandals just last week. Police believe those attempted break-ins are connected to last month's arson attack. The clinic has since updated its security, including hiring a 24-hour security guard. I will go through great measures to keep this place safe. And a message for the less-than-smooth criminals. Come down to the police station and see us, because we don't want to be hot on your trail.
