A significant arctic blast has swept across the eastern United States, causing record low temperatures for the second consecutive day. The cold front brought heavy snowfall to states such as Pennsylvania and New York, with some areas receiving nearly a foot of snow within 24 hours. 

Freeze warnings extended into northern Florida, where temperatures dropped below freezing and reached the coldest November levels in over a decade in Gainesville. The cold weather also led to dangerous road conditions in West Virginia and prompted protective measures for citrus crops in Florida.

Alright, it is a frigid morning for millions in the east. A winter storm is setting record lows for the second straight day. Temperatures are 30 degrees and I know you're thinking that's not bad, but that's lower than average for this time of year and many areas, many areas also saw some snow and we have CBS News meteorologist Rob Marciano and he has the chili forecast for us. Rob, good morning. Good morning. Boy, everybody got excited yesterday across the northeast with the snow that popped through. We had another pulse that came through early last night. That's pretty much double. We've got more in the way of lake effect snows that are coming off the Great Lakes. Is this cold air continues to settle in? But as you mentioned, it's all the way down to the south where it's really stark here. Freeze warnings are up for Valdosta, Brunswick, much of north florida. And that's where we find our Dave Malkoff. He's in north florida where temperatures fell below freezing again overnight in the midst of this november cold snap, a powerful arctic blast barreled east Tuesday, bringing below average temperatures and heavy snow to Pennsylvania and new york where some areas got nearly a foot of snow in 24 hours. It's good packing snow for the kids for sure. They can make snowmen for many, including in New Jersey. This was the first snow of the season for the south. Snow and the wind gusts created dangerous icy conditions on the roads in West Virginia with below average temperatures expected in florida. It's very, very cold. Used to this frozen one. The cold weather is stunning. These iguanas, it briefly paralyzes them. They wake up when they warm up. So what's under here? Um, different types of citrus trees. We talked to Veronica art here at the florida citrus center in Ocala. Her boss asked her to tarp all of these plants overnight. They could die if we don't have them covered. Mhm. I'm in Gainesville right now, where is definitely not orange and palm tree weather right now. Get this. It was 28 degrees overnight under a freeze warning that makes it the coldest november temperature in more than a decade.
