A significant arctic blast has swept across the United States, bringing gusty winds and heavy snowfall to the Midwest, including up to 10 inches in parts of the Chicago area. Lake effect snow also affected Ohio and Michigan, while the southern states experienced unusually low temperatures, with some areas along the Gulf Coast dropping into the 20s Fahrenheit.

Cities from Tennessee to the Florida Keys faced the possibility of record low temperatures, with Atlanta reported to be colder than New York. Meteorologists expect the cold spell to be brief, as temperatures in the South are forecast to rebound by the weekend.

That cold air bringing gusty winds and snow across the Chicago metro area Monday. Up to 10 inches fell in some places and more snow bands could fall early Tuesday. And that lake effect snow also impacting Ohio where the first snowfall of the season caught some drivers off guard. Almost 4 inches fell in parts of the region near Cleveland on Monday and that snow will continue into Wednesday. And this is a live look in Gaylord, Michigan where the birds seem to be enjoying the snow this morning. Doesn't bother them. This area also saw about 4 inches fall. Feels like temperatures right now there are in the low 20s with a high around 34 and leave it to a squirrel to chase away all of those birds. But it's the south really feeling the impacts of this arctic blast. Temperatures dipped into the 20s along the Gulf Coast. Even the 40s down in South Florida. And some cities could hit record lows on this Veterans Day from Tennessee to the Florida Keys. Get this one, it's colder in Atlanta this morning than in New York. But hate to tell you, southerners won't have to suffer for long. Temperatures will take a rebound by the weekend. We hope you warm up to New York.
