He was too frail to make it out on his own, so doctors began treating him in the cave while carefully planning the rescue. Here's what he said when he made it to the surface. It is amazing to be above ground again. I was underground for far longer than ever expected with an unexpected medical issue. It's been one hell of a crazy, crazy adventure, but I'm on the surface safely. I'm still alive. Well, the cause of his illness is unclear, but he also talked about the psychological toll that it really took on him. Just an incredible amount of teamwork there, right, to get him out.
