Some American Airlines flight attendants will be on the picket lines Wednesday as their union prepares to announce the results of a strike vote. They're hoping to put pressure on the company for a new contract with better pay and working conditions.

American Airlines flight attendants begin picketing

more than 26,000 union members will be picketing at a dozen flight attendant bases across the country, including D. F. W. Members of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants say they've been demanding a new contract for years now. They want improvements to pay staff onboarding and quality of life. They voted recently on a strike measure, and the results will be announced later this morning. A vote authorizing a strike, though, would not mean that the flight attendants would immediately walk off the job. Those members would have to get permission from the National Mediation Board. The union has asked that group to get involved in contract talks earlier this year. Earlier this month, American Airlines approved a new four year contract, and the flight attendants are now hoping the airline will turn its attention to them. We've reported quite a bit on that contract they made with the pilots. The flight attendants say the timing here is very intentional as they head into Labor Day with this potential strike with a message for their managers about the needed improvements in their workplace.
