Altadena's beloved Christmas Tree Lane is shining again nearly a year after a deadly wildfire tore through the area.

Despite the devastation, hundreds of volunteers helped string over 20,000 lights along the historic mile-long lane, continuing a tradition that began in 1920.

The event drew more than 15,000 attendees, serving as a symbol of hope and resilience for the community. Organizers and residents expressed optimism about rebuilding and the importance of maintaining traditions that bring people together after a challenging year.

The holidays are a time for traditions, and here's one tradition that almost ended because it came so close to destruction. Carter Evans reports from a California community devastated by a wildfire, but where the light of hope shines bright. Three, two, one! It's the spectacle Altadena wants to be known for. A dazzling display of thousands of lights on what's known as Christmas Tree Lane. It's giving us joy and hope and happiness and togetherness. But this year, the century-old tradition almost didn't happen. And it's especially spectacular tonight because of the fire. Back in January, wildfire ripped through this community, destroying 9,000 structures and killing 19 people. Most of the debris is gone now, along with many of the residents. But hundreds of volunteers returned to help string more than 20,000 lights. It's a tradition that began back in 1920, drawing millions of visitors over the years who drive bumper-to-bumper through a mile-long tunnel of twinkling trees. Now, after the fire, these lights are a beacon. It's kind of like a homecoming in a sense because it's like people are coming back. Ayo Sutherland grew up in Altadena and was one of more than 15,000 people at the Tree Lighting Saturday. I'm really looking forward to seeing the people of the community be able to stay here and rebuild within the community.
