But while openings have declined, interest has shot up. The number of applicants in June and July was almost double that in 2022. So it appears that employers are taking a cautious approach to the new technology. But James Reid, the chairman of Reed Recruitment, says it's more likely that AI skills will become embedded in existing roles rather than spun off as specific AI jobs. When it comes to AI job hotspots, per capita London is trailing far behind university towns like Oxford and Cambridge, despite the capital's larger tech sector. That suggests that AI is still an exploratory field tied to centres of innovation and technology before expanding its influence across the broader economy. Given the pace of change, many experts agree that whether specifically in the field of AI or not, most of us are going to have to learn AI skills for future jobs.
