India and Pakistan possess significantly different military capabilities, with India maintaining a much larger and more advanced armed force. India's annual defence budget stands at $75 billion, nearly ten times greater than Pakistan's. The total personnel strength also reflects this disparity, as India has approximately five million soldiers, reservists, and paramilitary members, compared to Pakistan's 1.7 million.

India's Air Force is considered among the most advanced globally, equipped with over 500 combat aircraft, which includes 36 Rafale jets acquired from France. India has also reached an agreement to procure an additional 26 fighter jets from France in the future. Pakistan's Air Force comprises more than 300 combat aircraft, including American-made F-16s and Chinese JF-17s.

Naval capabilities also show a marked contrast. India operates two aircraft carriers and possesses 18 submarines, one of which is capable of carrying nuclear warheads. Pakistan, in contrast, has no aircraft carriers and eight conventional submarines. On land, India has nearly twice as many tanks, ten times as many vehicles, and three times as many missiles as Pakistan.

Both countries are recognised nuclear powers. India is estimated to have 180 nuclear warheads, while Pakistan possesses approximately 170. The nuclear arsenals of both nations have led to concerns about potential escalation in the event of severe conflict.
