Chris Anderson holds the record for the most wins at Cooper’s Hill, having secured 23 victories. His own experiences include injuries such as a broken ankle and losing consciousness at the finish line. Anderson advises first-time participants that success requires a disregard for personal safety, particularly during the initial vertical descent.

Some runners have been known to have an alcoholic drink for courage, but Anderson prefers to race while sober for safety reasons. The tradition of cheese rolling at Cooper’s Hill dates back to at least the 1800s, and its popularity has increased in recent years, attracting winners from countries including New Zealand, Egypt, and the United States.

Two-time champion Abby Lampe from the United States is seeking a third victory. Anderson, now 37 and recovering from a hip injury, has retired from competition but has expressed a possible return if his son chooses to participate. Despite his achievements, Anderson has stated he does not actually enjoy the taste of the cheese.
