Astronomers have identified a new interstellar object, named 3I Atlas, marking only the third time such an object has been observed in our solar system. The comet was first detected by the ATLAS telescope in Chile and is traveling at approximately 37 miles per second from the direction of the Milky Way's center. Scientists confirm that 3I Atlas poses no threat to Earth, as it will remain at least 150 million miles away. While some researchers, including Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb, have speculated about the possibility of the object being alien technology, most experts, such as Karen Meach from the University of Hawaii, assert that its behavior is consistent with that of a typical comet. The object is expected to reach its closest approach to the Sun at about 130 million miles. Previous interstellar visitors include 1I Oumuamua and 2I Borisov.
