NASA’s Parker Solar Probe, developed by the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, has captured the closest images ever recorded of the Sun. The probe, launched in 2018, recently completed a record-breaking approach, coming within 6.1 million kilometres of the Sun’s surface and withstanding temperatures up to 1,400 degrees Celsius.

The images reveal solar winds streaming from the Sun’s corona and high-definition views of coronal mass ejections (CMEs), which are significant for understanding space weather that affects Earth. The Parker Solar Probe will continue its mission, gathering more data to help scientists uncover the origins of the solar wind.
