The vessel, designed to meet the World Sailing Speed Record Council's requirements, uses a combination of advanced hydrofoil technology and a large kite inspired by paragliding and kitesurfing to maximize speed and stability.

The current world record stands at 65.45 knots, achieved by Paul Larson on the Vesta's Sail Rocket 2. The SP80 team is targeting a speed of over 80 knots, focusing on optimizing their boat's design for minimal drag and maximum control. Beyond the record attempt, the team plans to apply their technological advancements to other industries, including hydroelectric power and maritime shipping.
