A federal judge has blocked an executive order from the Trump administration that sought to limit the ability of transgender and nonbinary Americans to obtain US passports with their correct sex markers. The judge, appointed by former President Biden, determined that the government did not provide adequate evidence that the policy served an important governmental interest.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) described the ruling as a critical victory against discrimination. The decision ensures that, for now, transgender and nonbinary individuals will continue to have access to passports reflecting their gender identity.
