Residents in villages along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir have reported significant damage and fear following recent artillery shelling. In the border district of Uri, the village of Langama was struck by shells originating from Pakistan, which is located only a few kilometres away. Multiple homes and shops were damaged, with over 20 houses in Langama affected and others partially destroyed.

Local shop owner Abdul Hamid Bhatt described his shop being turned to ashes and noted that many villagers had left the area due to a lack of safe shelters or bunkers. Residents, including children and elderly people, expressed fear for their safety and uncertainty about remaining in their homes amid ongoing shelling.

The escalation in violence followed India's claim of striking nine alleged terrorist sites in Pakistan, leading to retaliatory attacks. Panic spread in Jammu, with many, particularly students, seeking transport to leave the city and return to their families. Reports indicated an increase in missile and drone attacks in Jammu, prompting concerns for safety among residents.

A ceasefire between India and Pakistan was announced by the Indian government, offering some initial relief. However, residents in multiple parts of the region reported hearing blasts soon after, raising further concerns about ongoing instability.
