According to villagers, nearly 1,200 families were displaced due to the shelling. Residents reported that the attacks from the Indian side were indiscriminate, impacting homes and civilian lives. Local accounts refute claims from India that the strikes targeted militants, instead emphasizing the toll on non-combatants.

Among those affected, Mohammad Shafi lost his wife in the shelling and described the aftermath as traumatic and isolating. In total, local sources report that 32 people died and hundreds of homes and over two dozen shops were damaged or destroyed in the region.

Some civilians have begun returning to survey the damage and attempt to rebuild, while many remain uncertain about their futures. Residents living near the Line of Control expressed ongoing fear for their safety and called on authorities for support, such as the construction of protective bunkers or assistance in relocation.

The ceasefire, brokered by the United States, has brought a temporary end to heavy bombardment, offering both sides an opportunity for dialogue. Despite the pause in hostilities, community members in areas such as the Neelam Valley remain concerned about the potential for renewed conflict and the lack of long-term security guarantees.
