A volcano in Russia's Far East has erupted after sitting dormant for 600 years. Scientists believe the eruption was triggered by the massive earthquake that struck the region last week.

The Kamchatka branch of Russia’s ministry for emergency services said an ash plume was recorded rising up 5-6 kilometers following the volcano’s eruption and drifted 75 kilometers eastward.
